Rockford Art Museum aims to provide an accessible, engaging, and educational experience to all visitors. Below you’ll find details outlining the accessibility of our layout and our accessibility initiatives.
Visiting and navigating the museum:
Rockford Art Museum is located 711 North Main Street in Rockford, Illinois inside the Riverfront Museum Complex. The museum offers free parking in our large parking lot on the south side of the building, which includes handicap designated parking spaces and a curb with multiple ramped access points. The museum complex’s main entrance has a push-button-operated automatic door. The glass door into Rockford Art Museum’s suite does not currently have an automatic-opening mechanism, so a member of our museum staff will greet you at the door and guide you to our galleries.
All galleries are wheelchair accessible and both floors of the museum are accessible by elevator with staff assistance. Accessible restrooms are available in the museum complex’s lobby. Galleries offer bench seating, and portable gallery stools are available upon request.
Service animals are welcome inside Rockford Art Museum.
Service animals are trained to assist people with disabilities in the activities of everyday living. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) defines service animals as “any animal individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including, but not limited to, guiding individuals with impaired vision, alerting individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing to intruders or sounds, providing minimal protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, or fetching dropped items.” Service animals must be on a leash and under their owner’s control at all times.
If you are in need of a particular service during your visit to the museum, or have questions or concerns about the museum’s accessibility, please call our main line at (815) 968-2787, or email our assistant curator at email@example.com
Galleries will be temporarily closed until 2024. For information on scheduling a tour for your group after that date please use the form below:
