RAM opens Rockford Midwestern Biennial with free public opening June 10, features 85 works by 78 artists

Rockford Art Museum (RAM) opens The Rockford Midwestern Biennial on Friday, June 10, with a preview for museum members and exhibiting artists that includes a gallery walk led by the juror, reception, and awards presentation from 5 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a free public opening from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Sept. 25 at RAM, located at 711 N. Main St., Rockford.

Juried by DIALOGUE CHICAGO founding director Sarah Krepp, the 2016 Rockford Midwestern is the 74th presentation of the museum’s survey exhibition of new work by contemporary artists from across the Midwest. Krepp selected 85 photographs, paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, and more by 78 artists from across the Midwest. Best of Show and two Juror’s Choice awards will be presented during a preview reception for museum members and exhibiting artists – as well as the 2016 Dean Alan Olson Purchase Award, to the artist whose work has been selected for inclusion in the Rockford Art Museum Permanent Collection. 

The Rockford Midwestern Biennial and its related educational programming are sponsored by the Dean Alan Olson Foundation and Niccole Ranz, In Home Medical Group; and partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency and by the Armer Ahlstrand Charitable Foundation.
