A recent episode of the short film series ‘Our City, Our Story’ features Rockford Art Museum (RAM) Curator Carrie Johnson, who has held the position since 2012—longer than anyone else in the 106-year-old history of the contemporary art museum.

The short film was produced by series creator Pablo Korona who wrote in the episode summary: “Carrie Johnson lost passion for what she felt was her direction in life. Little did she know that a change lay ahead of her. With renewed purpose, Carrie sets about to help her community by helping transform the institution that had helped her reinvent herself.”

Featured in this piece is FIGHT NIGHT, hosted by then-exhibiting artist (and Golden Gloves boxer) Cheryl Pope at Rockford Art Museum. Fight Night featured sparring bouts from Patriots Boxing Club with spoken word intervals by We Empower Too. The event was part of the exhibition-related educational programming for Cheryl Pope: Not Without a Fight, curated by Johnson and on view February 8–May 27 at RAM.
