Technicolor Constellations

Technicolor Constellations

Digging deep into the Rockford Art Museum vault, we’ve selected over 50 pieces from the Modern and Contemporary Collection that tell the fascinating stories of how the Rockford Art Museum built a public art collection.

Technicolor Constellations invites visitors to connect with the captivating stories behind each artist and their work and find the links that brought the work to the museum. From private donors, foundations, artists, and acquisitions, this exhibition explores the importance of artwork donations, collectors and what it takes to get into a museum’s permanent collection. Technicolor Constellations brings together work by 38 artists and includes painting, prints, sculpture, and video. Featured artists include Herman Aguirre, Alice Aycock, Jeff Koons, Kerry James Marshall, Tony Oursler, Diane Simpson, and Ken Warneke. Also featured in this dynamic exhibition are gallery games and activities as well as unique gallery furniture.

Technicolor Constellations is organized collectively by the Rockford Art Museum curatorial staff and Collections/Exhibitions Committee. The exhibition and its related educational programming are sponsored by Matthew and Janella Herbig and partially supported by a Partners in Excellence grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency and Women’s Art Board of Rockford Art Museum.
