Vestiges of Time (Monument Valley III)

More than 200 pieces of modern and contemporary art by Chicago-based artists and studio glass artists from around the world comprise the Francis and June Spiezer Collection. The Spiezers gifted their first piece of this incredible donation to the Permanent Collection in 1992. Chicago art critic Paul Klein named this grouping—which includes the iconic Red Sweeney by Ed Paschke (1975, pl. 58) and Globalization Affects: Chicago by Jacqueline Moses—the most significant collection of Chicago art, inside or outside the city. The terms of their 1994 donation agreement require RAM to show the collection in full at least once every 10 years; its last full exhibition was 2009.—excerpted from the commemorative book RAM 100: Rockford Art Museum Centennial, 1913–2013
