“In all the work there is a strong interest and concern for light,” Lerner said. Like Aaron Siskind, he was interested in abstraction and the more formal concerns of art. Inventor of the light box, Lerner did not think of himself as a photographer. (Of all the pieces Arnold Gilbert donated to Rockford Art Museum, he considered Lerner’s work the most significant.)
