American Heaven

A brilliant communicator, Sigler conveys difficult emotional content in a way that viewers relate to and understand. Her vibrantly colored faux-naïve style makes use of everyday objects in unexpected ways. Passion, fear, romance, escape, desire, women’s roles, entrapment of middle-class suburbia, and dreams of fame are all recurring motifs. Emotion-laden scenarios never reveal the cause of the drama, only its aftermath, leaving the viewer to solve the mystery of what has occurred. By consciously removing people from the scene Sigler creates a striking visual tension, enticing us to actively engage in the drama.—Patty Rhea, 2009
