Working with shutter speed, chemical processes, and exposures, Swedlund captures three women here who gesture as a spiraling motion, where one figure moves into the other. Swedlund taught at Southern Illinois University for nearly 30 years and retired in 1999. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Illinois Institute of Design in Chicago, where Aaron Siskind was his professor.
