Rockford Art Museum announced a major donation to the RAM Collection by Lon and Richard Behr on Wednesday, November 1, and launched a contest inviting the public to help name the steel horse sculpture. Montana-based artist Deborah Butterfield made the piece with scrap material from Joseph Behr and Sons in Rockford.

Together with the Behrs, Rockford Art Museum invites the community to help name the sculpture. The nationally acclaimed artist will make the final selection for the name from entries submitted in RAM’s Name the Horse Contest. Open to all ages, it runs through January 2, 2018. Participants may submit more than one entry; entries must be submitted in person at Rockford Art Museum at 711 North Main Street, Rockford. The winning name of the sculpture will be announced January 8, and the person who submitted the winning entry will receive a free membership to RAM.
Rockford Art Museum was established by the community in 1913 to help make life better in the Rockford region through a permanent art collection, frequent art exhibitions, and lifelong art education – a mission it adheres to today. “The Behrs’ passion and generosity for our community through their longtime support of RAM is truly remarkable. This donation will be enjoyed by people of all ages for years to come,” said Linda Dennis, executive director of Rockford Art Museum.
